An EMS is a comprehensive system for managing all environmental aspects of a business or operation. This process focuses on any activities, products or services that may impact the environment (e.g., water and energy consumption, use of chemicals, air emissions, purchasing decisions or management of solid waste). The system results in a commitment to managing the most environmentally significant parts of an organization's work toward the end of improving environmental quality.

2:45 – 4:00 "Statewide Regionalized Joint Purchasing Co-operative"  Frank Draxler, Ken Tronnier, Lee Johnson, Linda Buchanan

A panel will discuss the possibility of leveraging the economies of existing joint purchasing co-operatives in Wisconsin by aggregating volumes and sharing expertise. A proposal will be presented for a business model that allows statewide contracts for appropriate commodities, while allowing market-area contracts for those commodities that are most economical when purchased regionally. Formal affiliation between existing public co-ops will be explored. This workshop will answer questions and present innovative alternatives for anyone interested in joint purchasing."
